Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a health care discipline, which emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs and surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health.

  • Spinal and extremity pain relief
  • Headache relief

Individualized Services

Pregnancy

Along with the wonderful gift of children, pregnancy brings several changes to the female form. Increased spinal curvature from the larger abdomen, pelvic misalignment from the heavier and awkward weight for the child, and nausea are just some of the ailments that women get while pregnant. The Webster technique, which helps put the baby in the proper position to be born, along with other chiropractic techniques help make for a healthier pregnancy and easier birthing process. Chiropractic treatment, also, helps reduce the need for C-section due to your baby not descending correctly.

Benefits of chiropractic services while pregnant:

  • Pelvic balance & back alignment
  • Improved posture
  • Controls nausea and other digestive problems
  • Helps relieve pain

Infants and Children

Chiropractic care can assist your child in balancing their bodies so they calm down, look up and pay attention. Even under the best conditions, birthing can be difficult for the infant who has spent nine months cradled in the dark, warm womb. It is very important to have your infant checked by a chiropractor shortly after his or her birth to be certain that there is not any nerve interference or spinal problems. Periodic checks should continue throughout your child’s lifetime.

Scientists are still learning how to accurately assess the damage to infants. They do know that a forced pull on the neck during delivery can cause a subluxation that might cause damage, too slight to be noticed immediately. But eventually it might cause some form of dysfunction including but not limited to pain, scoliosis, earaches, or colic. In 1989, a study compared the patients of two hundred pediatricians with two hundred children who had been under the care of chiropractors. Not only was the overall health of the chiropractic children superior to those who had known only medical treatment but they also had fewer ear infections, fewer allergies, lower incidence of tonsillitis and less need to be given antibiotic therapy.

Teens

Fact, teens today have less free time than teens 20 years go. It seems that kids are always busy with school, extra-curricular activities, family commitments, and even jobs. Adding these stresses with our increasingly sedentary lifestyles and unhealthy eating habits can cause serious health problems on teens. Chiropractic and nutritional services are here to help you or your children reach wellness.

Benefits of teen services:

  • Posture and back alignment
  • Relieves pain
  • Controls obesity and health related problems
  • Helps speed up recovery from injuries
  • Postural and neural balance helps prevent injuries

Athletes

One Iron-man’s Story, by: Ray Fauteux, Iron-man competitor

"For years chiropractors were seldom given the credit they deserved when it came to improving athletic performance. Now however, it’s not uncommon at all to see chiropractors treating world-class athletes. Several years ago I decided to try chiropractic adjustments because I was developing problem areas from my Ironman Triathlon training. The most bothersome was a constantly sore neck from all the swimming I was doing. Also, I had upper back and shoulder pain from cycling in the profile position.

After making inquiries, I soon had the name of a chiropractic doctor who specialized in treating a wide range of athletes. I remember sitting in his waiting room on the day of my first appointment and seeing autographed pictures on his wall. He had treated all pro hockey players, bobsled teams and professional dancers. It looked like I was in the right place.

After just one treatment I had relief from my neck pain and my next swim was a lot more enjoyable. From what the doctor told me, my spine was out of alignment and he recommended a course of treatment that would keep everything “well-adjusted” during the Ironman training season.

Note: Most chiropractors will suggest you come in 4 or 5 times a week. Mine did as well, but only for the first 2 weeks so he could get the adjustments to “hold.” It’s not really feasible or necessary to have that many appointments week after week. After 2 weeks we set up a schedule of twice a week. It was perfect.

You seldom have to wait and the adjustments themselves only take 10 or 15 minutes. I found the treatments quite affordable as well. Where I live the provincial health plan pays part of the cost and the patient pays the rest. (About $20 per visit). It was one of the best training decisions I ever made and the $160 a month was money well spent.

From that point on, I was a patient until the doctor retired. He used to say he was giving me a competitive edge and I believed him. I had my best Ironman Triathlon result ever the first year chiropractic adjustments became part of my training program. It was one of the highlights of my Ironman career when the doctor asked me to autograph a finish line picture for him. From then on it was on the wall between the Olympic bobsled team and the pro hockey player.

I highly recommend you include chiropractic adjustments as part of your training program for your first Ironman Triathlon. At the very least, try a few adjustments and see what they do for you.

My name is Ray and I’ve been an endurance athlete for over 25 years. I’ve competed in over 30 marathons, 2-50 mile races, 14 Ironman triathlons, and countless shorter races."

Adults

The world today is experiencing a terrible level of stress. Long work weeks, seemingly impossible deadlines and economic woes create incredible pressures. In addition, most adults breath in polluted air, drink chemically treated water, and consume an average of nine pounds of food additives and chemical preservatives a year, putting even more stress on their bodies. One sure way to keep the stress level from causing potential dangerous subluxations is with regular chiropractic checkups.

Seniors

Retirement age for many people has become just plain tiresome. Aches and pains, often the result of untreated subluxations, abound. Yet it hardly seems right that having to suffer from pain or being drugged into numbness are fair rewards for all the years of work.

Depending on the degree of subluxation degeneration, chiropractic care can often provide help. For senior citizens who have been fortunate enough to have suffered minimal trauma in their lives, virtually complete spinal recovery should be almost as easy as it would be for younger people.

For those who have suffered needlessly for years, chiropractic care can often slow or stop the degeneration, making life more comfortable. It is certainly worth the effort, so that our senior citizens get the dignity of health care they deserve.
